Funk Bucket
In the spring of 2017, I was worried about losing my job because of a merger and really didn’t have a plan if it happened. On the recommendation of a friend, I began meeting with a success coach, Mitch. That opened my eyes to desires and a vision for me that has re-shaped so many things! Emerging from the time with Mitch was a plan to pursue work that is fulfilling and in line with my experiences and dreams. For me, that is pursuing success coaching.
So, I took the step. I jumped into training (which I loved). I had practice clients by mid-2018 (also loved). Now I am thoroughly enjoying the experience of seeing others gain freedom and build plans to see their dreams come true. All awesome, right?
Then something began to happen…I began to think thoughts like “you’re crazy if you think people would actually pay you for this” and “you really don’t know what you’re doing” and “why should someone pay you for just being a friend?” and “Don’t try to reinvent yourself” and “Play it safe - quit trying” and on and on and on. These are thoughts that come from what I call the Funk Bucket.
As a result, I began to feel uneasy, then shy, then almost like avoiding coaching - both the practice and the development I needed. I began to slowly withdraw from what I was subtly beginning to think of as fake. Fantasy. Not real. At least not attainable for me.
Fake. Fantasy. Not real. Sound familiar? I find this to be typical when someone begins to pursue a dream or reinvent themselves or even just change. This is normal for the dreamer - the difference-maker.
What’s benefitted me has been coaching - keep investing. I need the accountability. I also have a wife (she is beautiful inside and out) that wants to grow. We encourage each other. My friends know and encourage me. They remind me of the vision.
What are your dreams? Have you ever had those funk bucket thoughts? What are you doing to stay out of the funk bucket? Please leave a comment about your experience. If you need a coach to help you, I would like to be that person for you. Let’s stay out of the funk bucket together.
